Ajax DoorProtect - wireless door contacts

Ajax DoorProtect vs. DoorProtect Plus: Which Wireless Opening Detector is Right for You?

What is a Door Contact?

Door contacts are usually sensors that let a system know whether a door is opened or closed by means of a reed switch which is an electrical switch operated by a magnetic field..

As a homeowner, keeping your family and property safe is a top priority. Ajax DoorProtect and DoorProtect Plus are both effective wireless solutions for securing your doors and windows. While they share similarities, such as their hi-end reed switches and wireless operation, there are some key differences to consider when deciding which device is right for your home security needs.

Key Features:

Range and Communication Protocol

The Ajax DoorProtect operates within the wireless Ajax security system and has a communication range of up to 1,200 meters in a line of sight. It uses the Ajax protocol called "Jeweller radio" protocol to ensure secure communication between the device and the hub which has been tried and tested in Europe.

On the other hand, Ajax DoorProtect Plus has the same range and protocol but also includes an accelerometer that registers changes in vertical slope angle, bangs, or vibration, sending an alarm to the hub. This feature is particularly useful for securing roof windows or windows that can be left open for ventilation.

Installation and Compatibility

Both Ajax DoorProtect and DoorProtect Plus are easy to install on all types of doors, including metal doors. They are also compatible with third-party security systems, using the uartBridge or ocBridge Plus integration modules.

What is the difference between DoorProtect and DoorProtect Plus?

Ajax DoorProtect Plus

This device provides protection for windows even when they are left open for ventilation. It uses an accelerometer to detect changes in the vertical slope angle, as well as any bumps or vibrations, and sends an alarm to the hub when triggered.

Ajax DoorProtect

The device consists of two modules — detector and magnet. The set includes two magnets: the big magnet is installed at a distance of up to 2 cm, and the small magnet up to 1 cm.

The device detects the door or window being opened by means of British-made hi-end reed switches on which the magnetic field acts.

The DoorProtect offers a more traditional approach to magnetic door contacts while the DoorProtect Plus has a built in accelerometer that registers slight changes in the vertical slope angles, bangs or vibration from windows or doors.
